Puffin

Welcome to Puffin Class

Class Teacher: Natalie

Teaching Assistants: Sarah, Joe, Martin, Lizzie, Dean and Jack

In Puffin Class, we believe in developing our social skills by working together and celebrating friendship. We learn to work, share and play together in order to build strong, happy friendships.

We work on our communication skills to enable us to interact with others in fun and meaningful ways.

We think that it is important to learn about, becoming independent, understanding and expressing our emotions in order to be happy and healthy.

We believe that our work should be creative and based on our interests.

We think it is the role of the teachers and teaching assistants to encourage and develop our independence.

 Home Learning

We do hope that Puffin Class children and families have been keeping safe and well.

We encourage the children to get outdoors and investigate the natural environment around them.  This is still learning as children can develop new vocabulary, explore and ask questions to help understand the world around them.  Any outdoor games, such as catch, football and trampolining are important for their physical development so please pursue exercise which your child enjoys and that you and the family can get involved in.

Please don’t forget that your child’s life skills are key so any activities that promote independence or new skills are encouraged, such as making cards, crafting, cooking, gardening and helping around the house.  Social skills are also important too, so any turn taking games are a great way to support this and develop their language.

The Weblinks below are useful and please continue to use these if  your child enjoys the activities.  I have added some new links to online learning/websites, which should help to engage your child.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/

A range of activities that can be printed off and completed with support.  Try letter/number formation and cutting activities.  There are fine motor skills activities under EYFS tab which your child would benefit from.

https://www.educationcity.com/

You can use EducationCity to engage your child with maths, english and science at varying levels to suit your child.  You will need to register for a free trial or contact me for your child’s login details.

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/books/free-ebooks/

Does your child like reading books? If so here is a range of Oxford Reading Tree books that can be accessed online.  You will need to register to access this but is well worth it to keep up their reading skills.

Please feel free to use these activities to support your child with home learning but also remember that there is no pressure to do so, these are suggested activities and we understand that you know your child best and we are sure you will do your best to arrange learning that suits you and your situation.

Please feel free to contact myself for any further ideas and help, or if you have any questions.

All the best and we hope to see you again in the near future.

Natalie Sparnon and the Puffins Team.

                 Puffins Curriculum

Puffins will be learning through rhyming texts and poems. The focus will be Bears and Teddy bears. We will be making our own versions of the story " We are going on a bear hunt" and will use the forest school as  dramatic role play and sensory links. Throughout the term we will be learning about the moon bears at Wingham wildlife park. We will be making items in cooking sessions to celebrate a teddy bears picnic at the end of term. The children will begin to share simple reading books in their reading bags at home. During music activities the children will be learning some songs from inclusive sign and singing sessions.

Puffins continue to enjoy extra PE sessions provided DSC.
