Meerkat

Welcome to Meerkat Class!

We are a mixed age, early years class and we value the importance of learning through play, getting messy and engaging with new experiences, both inside and outside!

Our class page has information about our daily routines, the Early Years Approach and also pictures all about what we have been up to in class!

Term 6 in Meerkats

We cannot believe we are already in the last term of the year! It has flown by for all of us.

This term, we will be using the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar as our basis and we will be looking at the days of the week, healthy eating, the natural world and patterns. We will also be doing 30 Days Wild from the Wildlife Trust, which celebrates all things natural. Have a look at our 30 Days Wild tab for the pictures.

This term, we will also be preparing the children for their next class and we will be giving more opportunities for independence and learning life skills, such as dressing and undressing, using cutlery, trying new foods and understanding different temperatures.

We are so looking forward to this fun term, and we hope you and your children have a lovely end to the school year.

Term 5 in Meerkats

This term, we are using the book 'Where the Wild Things Are' and we are learning all about our families, different environments, descriptive words, music and floating and sinking. We are also starting to use daily work books where we have a simple pencil control or number based activity which we need to complete at the beginning of the day. We are also back to having our forest school sessions on a Friday morning and are working on longer transitions, gross motor skills and listening skills as well.

This book also offers lots of opportunities for reflecting on 'good choices' and 'bad choices' which we will be using to help the children understand different behaviours, expectations and strategies to help self-regulate their emotions.

We cannot wait to show you all of the fun things we do this term. Find our pictures in the 'Meerkats Learning' tab.

Term 4 in Meerkats

This term our topic in Meerkat Class is 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'!

We have chosen this story as it is a well known story which the children enjoy and know, as well as offering lots of opportunities for learning which spans across the EYFS.

We have also begun looking at 'signs of spring' such as flowers which are starting to grow, animals which are coming out of hibernation and the weather being warmer. To help with this, we have some flowers growing in the class which we are watching and watering every day. We will also begin visiting the sensory garden and hopefully doing our own planting!

It is going to be such a fun term! If you have any questions or queries, or just want to share something, let us know either in the children's home contact books or via email-
