Share as many stories at home as possible. Pretend to be a character from the story or act it out together. Make up funny voices and have fun sharing books. Ask questions about what happens in the story. Encourage your child to ask you questions. Pick out words that you think your child doesn't understand and talk to them about what it means in the story.
Nursery rhymes are important so include singing and rhymes.
Traditional tales are great for giving children ideas for their own stories, make up your own character to go in your own story, change where the story is set, change the problem in the story.
