Communicate Parent & Teacher

Teachers Contacting Parents

The teacher may write in your child's contact book (if they have one) regarding your child’s progress or behaviour, or they may ask to speak to you at the end of the school day. In other circumstances, you may be contacted by telephone to discuss any issues, or to arrange a convenient time for you to meet.

Parent Communication System

Whitfield Aspen School use School Comms as part of our school communication. As part of this, we will send emails and text messages. You can also download a free, smartphone app, which is available to download and is called "School Gateway".

Contact Details

Please ensure you notify the school of any changes to your child's contact details. Our Office Team will provide the necessary form and amend our database.

Absences

In the case of your child being absent from school, please contact our Attendance Officer before the start of the school day with the reason for absence. Alternatively, you can inform us of your child’s absence via the School Comms app.

Illness and Injuries at School

In the case of your child becoming ill at school, the office will contact the parent/carer starting with the ‘priority one’ listed contact. If staff are unable to make contact they will try the next priority contact on the list, and so forth, until contact is made to collect your child.

For serious injuries and bumps to the head, a qualified First Aider will treat the injury or bump and contact you by phone, as well as completing a form to be sent home outlining the details of the incident. If we are unable to contact you, the class teacher will endeavour to speak to you at the end of the day.

Parents Contacting Teachers

If you wish to contact your child's teacher regarding issues or queries, please feel free to write in your child's contact book (if they have one) or email the class teacher on the class email address. Alternatively, you can contact the office who will arrange with your child’s class teacher to contact you, to arrange a convenient time for you to meet.

Standard procedure is to begin with your child’s class teacher regarding any issues. If necessary, the class teacher will then refer to the Key Stage (KS) Leader, SENCo, Assistant Headteacher, Head of School or the Headteacher.
