All the children will have slightly different communication styles and we use assessment of their preferred styles to support them to make progress in the way that suits them.
We have a speech and language therapist in school who works with the class teacher to support each child.
In Bluebird class children usually use a range of communication strategies such as speech, PECS, talkpad, symbols, makaton and eye gaze. We encourage non-verbal commuication alongside more traditional communication methods so that the children become confident communicators who feel safe and understood. We work with families at home to support you in implementing strategies at home and can provide/give information on specific training that will help families learn about specific strategies.
