The engagement curriculum is available to all pupils at Whitfield Aspen school who may require extra provision to help them engage in school to their fullest potential.
The engagement curriculum follows the model of 'Lens of Engagement' as detailed below to identify what support would best benefit the individual pupil. For some pupils this means they are based in Pathway 1 classes where their day is structured around the principles of engagement, for others they may access certain activities or sessions to support them.
Activities offered at Whitfield Aspen School include zones of regulation bespoke sessions, cooking, sports coaching, off site visits, horse riding, forest school and more.
The lens of engagement are:
The premise of the lens' is they form the building blocks of learning and so by increasing these skills in learners they are able to more effectively apply them to all areas of learning in school.
Our Pathway 1 curriculum is based upon the lens' of engagement and can be found via the link below.
More information on the engagement model can be found via the additional links to the government guidance for parents and engagement 4 learning site. Please note at Whitfield Aspen school we use the engagement framework to support all our learners who require additional support in these areas NOT just those who are following non subject specific pathways.
The engagement lead for Whitfield Aspen School is currently Beth Wakelin.
As well as offering this to all pupils who require it in our school we also provide outreach services including training in the engagement curriculum to schools in the local district.
