Our Learning

Our Learning

In badger class, we learn through play focusing on the areas of our EHCP’S; communication interaction, cognition and learning, physical development and social emotional and mental health.

We use attention autism session, singing sessions and focused activities in small groups to make our learning exciting and fun! We will take photos throughout the day and we will share these here for everyone to see!

Term Five

This term, we have been reading the books Shark in the Park and Shark in the Dark! We have also been using the Talk for Writing skills we began last term to help us recall and understand the story. We have also enjoyed lots of mark making, messy play and cooking activities.

This term, we have also been working on ordering numbers and developing our number skills and understanding as well as an introduction to 2D shapes! We then incorporated this into our attention autism sessions where we focused on identifying different shapes in our stage 3 activities.

This term we have also loved being outside and enjoying all the sunshine, especially as we have been able to visit different areas around the school such as sensory playground, sensory garden and forest school, working on our ability to smoothly transition around the school in a safe way.

Term Four

This term, we have been reading the book We're Going on a Bear Hunt as our topic. We have been working on our listening and attention skills and have begun to use some Talk for Writing sessions where we listen to the story and Eve then draws symbols to represent the story as well. This has really helped with recall and listening and attention and has been super fun!

We also celebrated World Book Day this term and all the children enjoyed dressing up and reading some favourite stories. We also enjoyed lots of cooking activities and enjoyed spending time outside enjoying the spring weather and observing the changes in our environment.

Term Three

This term, we have been reading the book Handa's Surprise! We have enjoyed exploring toys based about the different animals and different fruits in the story. We have also been developing our communication skills, using communication boards and symbols to make requests with familiar adults and have enjoyed interacting with different grown ups.

This term, we have also been working on our fine motor skills through threading and painting activities using small objects, such as cotton buds and beginning to develop our scissor control with some cutting activities. For our maths focus, we have been working on identifying big and small and understanding what is big and what is small.

It has been a very busy and fun filled term in Badgers!!!

Term Two

In term two, we are focussing on celebrations and traditional tales. Along with this, we will be building our communication skills through use of intensive interactions, use of symbols and visual prompts (such as objects of reference, makaton and photographs), building our regulation awareness and understanding as well as continuing to be happy and safe at school. We have got lots of exciting things planned, especially for Christmas! We cannot wait to share them with you all!

Term One

Our first term focuses on settling into school, setting out routines and helping the children feel happy and confident coming to school. We will get to know each other and enjoy lots of sensory based, learning through play activities!
