Year 5 - Weasel & Wombat

Term 6

Welcome back

We hope you all had a lovely break over half term and are ready to move forward with your last term in Year 5.  This term we will be having fun in English through reading Kensuke’s Kingdom and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.  We’ll also be learning lots of survival techniques, all about the world’s resources and we’ll be building our own ‘moving monsters’.

We have two requests for this term;

1. Could you please wash out any plastic bottles you use at home and send them into class? We have got an exciting project during week 4 (week beginning 24th June) and we need lots of bottles!

2. Could you also start collecting any food packing that shows where in the world the food has come from. We need these for Tuesday 18th June.

The main home learning task for this term is an independent project.  See below, for more information about this!

We’re looking forward to an exciting last term together,

Mrs Thornhill, Mrs Tierney and Mr Lowrey.

Term 4

We hope you all had a fun half-term and are ready to embark on another term in Year 5. We can’t quite believe we are halfway through the year already!  This term will we be continuing our Heroes and Villains theme.  We are also be joining the whole school by looking at the book ‘Lost and Found’ to celebrate book week. We will be making our own penguins for this, so if you’ve got any old black socks at home, please send them in by Monday 4th March.

Once again can we remind you of the home learning activities? It would be great if you could complete all of them this term, in addition to your daily reading (20 Mins).

Mrs Thornhill, Mrs Tierney and Mr Lowrey.

Affinity Water School Visit

Year Five have had an eye-opening visit from Affinity Water, our local water supplier. They have participated in exciting STEM challenges, including creating a gravity fed water supply to a model town.

Also, they have been learning about the importance of water conservation - hopefully, they will be reminding you to turn off running taps and to recycle bath water for gardening.

Take a look at the class pages to see what they have been doing!
