Literacy Challenge

Today is Wednesday. In the story the Very Hungry Caterpillar eats through three plums on this day. What have you eaten today? Draw a picture and write a sentence in your food diary.

We would also like you to start thinking about returning to school next week. We are all very excited about seeing you and hearing all your news. The children who have been at school are looking forward to seeing all their friends again soon.

We would like you to think about what you are most looking forward to. It might be an activity at school or friends that you have been missing. You could draw a picture of this to share with us.

Phonics

At school we are continuing to revise the sounds in Phase 2 and Phase 3. You can practise the sounds using the games and activities on Phonics Play. Choose some of the sounds that you are finding difficult to remember. At school we have been focussing on the 'ear, air and ure,' sounds. We have practised reading, writing and playing games using these sounds.

Maths Challenge

Today in maths you are going to have a go at making your subtraction number sentences using coins!

The Activity:

Have a look at the list of subtraction number sentences, you can use these or make up your own.

Write them down onto strips of paper (you can get a grown up to do this for you.)

Choose one of your takeaway number sentences and use coin rubbings to make it on your paper. (Have a look at the photos to see an example)

Put your coin under the paper and using a pencil or a crayon, make a rubbing of the coin. Do this for the number of coins you need to start with.

Next, draw your subtraction symbol.

Then rub coins for the amount you are going to be taking away.

Finally, you need to work out the answer, you can cross the coins out to help or use the real coins like I have in the video.
