Mark Making Activities

Activity One

Encourage your child to take part in mark making activities using a range of tools such as paints, pens and crayons. Your child may enjoy some undirected mark making time where they are free to make scribbles and any other marks they choose to make. Allowing your child time to do this will strengthen their fine motor skills whilst giving them a positive mark making experience. Below are some transport colouring sheets that your child may enjoy free marking on.

Activity Two

If you feel your child is ready for some more direction, in class we have been focusing on drawing lines, circles and zig zags. Model each mark to your child and draw alongside them, encouraging your child to copy you. You may also like to draw some lines, circles and zig zags for your child to trace. You can also find some tracing activities below that your child may enjoy completing if you have a printer at home. Your child may also enjoy making these marks on an Ipad/phone painting app.

Activity Three

One activity the children have really enjoyed at school so far this term is adding features onto a transport template. The children have loved drawing wheels and windows onto a bus template and this is a great activity for developing a range of marks such as circles and lines. If you feel your child is able they may also enjoy drawing a smiley face as the driver too! Below are some transport templates.

Activity Four

If your child is able to, they may enjoy drawing different modes of transport. You could model each step for your child to copy and add details depending on your child's ability. If your child is confident in copying lines and different shapes, you could encourage them to copy letters, short words or their name to label their drawings.
