Firefly Class Mixed Years

Welcome to Firefly Class

In Firefly Class we work towards greater independence and developing social skills alongside fulfilling our educational targets. We love to spend lots of time out of the classroom learning about the world around us including visiting local parks and shops.  As well as the usual literacy and numeracy, our days consist of sensory circuits to focus our mind and bodies, workboxes for independent learning and yoga . We also develop our attention skills using Attention Autism consisting of Kate's famous bucket of toys and activities in 20 minute sessions. Alongside these activities we also take part in weekly cooking, forest school and trips out.

Term 1


We've had a very busy term getting to know new children and staff. We have been working hard on transitions to different places independently both in school and off site. Everyone has settled in really well and looking forward to getting started on Term 2 with a few more challenges!

Term 2

This term we continue to do forest school. It would be great if children could bring in some spare clothes to change in to keep them warm during the Winter months.


Our themes this term will be Halloween, Diwali and Christmas!

Term 3


After a well deserved break we are back and raring to go! This term our theme is Bear Necessities and we are going to be looking at all things 'Bear'! We will be reading the books 'Goldilocks and the three bears', 'We're going on a bear hunt' and 'Grrrr!' Our cooking sessions will be bear themed as much as possible and we continue to work on our independence. We are also starting a term of music with Mrs. Avery which we are all very excited about. We are also developing our literacy and numeracy skills working on our positional language in numeracy such as 'up, down, under, over, beside, next to' and sentence work dependent on each child's abilities.
