Alternative Home Activities

The document below has some ideas to do at home with your children. You don't need to go to any great lengths to buy items, just look for things around your home to use. Life skills are so very important and all these activities will help you, us and especially your child

Emotion cards can be used to work with your child about recognising facial expressions and understanding emotions. For the younger children start with the basics, happy, sad, tired and for the older ones have a look at some of the more complex emotions.

Use the 'How are you feeling today?' sheet to talk about how they are feeling throughout the day and use a prompt when they show a feeling that they don't understand. You can point to the picture and say 'Kate, you look like you're feeling sad' and then point to the picture of that emotion and then give them a choice of how they can make themselves feel better e.g. if sad I would say to them 'would you like a hug?'
