Materials Drama Workshop - Tuesday 15th January
Polar Bear, Llama and Dolphin classes all took part in the Science workshop today, put on by Ian from KIC Theatre company.
They worked in groups to show how some materials change shape and how others are rigid; they moved like liquids and gases, and made shapes like different solids; they melted like ice when it is heated and froze again when the temperature dropped!
All in all, a very informative and fun way to learn our Science. In class this term we will ask the children to observe and record their own observations of how materials are used and why. Look at your class pages to see more.
This term our topic is based around owls; we have been reading 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark' by Jill Tomlinson. We will be using this story to inspire the children in their reading and writing. In Art we will be making collages of owls, creating owls using clay and painting owls through the method of pointillism.
Later in the term we will be reading the story 'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig' and in Science the children will investigate which materials will make good houses for the little wolves.
We will be continuing to practise the four operations (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) within Numeracy so please continue to support your children to use their Maths in home activities.
Spellings will continue to come home each week. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings.
The class teachers in Year 2 are Mrs Carter (Polar Bear Class), Mrs Parker-Gorman (Llama Class) and Mr Hitchiner (Dolphin Class).
The class TAs are Mrs Buckley, Paula Pfledger, Mrs Rivers, Mrs Licence and Mrs Proudlock.
We are all thoroughly looking forward to working with you over the course of the year.
